The captain let go of the man's hair, kicking him in the shin. The man shoved his food into a paper bag at top speed, then sped out of the diner.

Following that, the captain sat down across Wilbur. She glanced at him, before turning to the two officers she came with. "Get me a latte, please."

She looked the other three people at the table up and down, before asking, "I've never seen you around here before, young man! Is this your first time in Fenler?"

Wilbur nodded calmly. "Yes, it is!"

The captain watched as Wilbur continued eating his food without a hint of nervousness and smiled. "I knew it! People around here usually turn the other way at the sight of me, and they know not to mess with me, but you don't seem scared of me in the slightest, so I'm guessing you're either new here or you've got someone powerful supporting you! I know the former's definitely true, but I was wondering if the latter might be true as well?" the captain asked, looking straight at Wilbur as if she was trying to stare through his soul.

"You've got it wrong, Captain. It really is my first time here, but I'm also a law-abiding citizen. My truck's parked right outside, and you're free to search it if you want. Besides, you seem like a good police officer too. Why should I be afraid of you? All you've done so far is protect my friend from someone harassing her and keep peace among the people. I honestly can't think of a single reason I should be scared of you, really! Unless, of course, you were to suddenly rob me," Wilbur said innocently in response.
